Music is an important part of the world we live in, both culturally and socially. Not only can we enjoy listening to it in its recorded form on the radio, through CDs and mp3 players and on our computers, we can also experience it live as our favourite musicians showcase their talents onstage.
As well as this, there are many social situations where music is used to brighten the mood, creating a positive atmosphere where people are free to dance, chat and meet new people. Dancing is an art form in itself, but its existence is largely dependent on music.
Music is heard all around us and fills many silences that would otherwise hang in the air. Whether it is in a club or party to create an atmosphere in a social situation, or if its simply in the background as we wait in a lift or in a hospital waiting room, music can be heard all of the time.
Without music a large part of our cultural heritage would be gone, and many other art forms would suffer, from films to television, theatre and dance. Due to its diversity, however, it is likely to flourish forever.
